For someone living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, a large plate of food can feel overwhelming before they even take the first bite.
Too much food at once may lead to confusion, frustration, loss of interest, or simply saying, “I’m not hungry.”
🌿 Try this instead: Offer smaller portions more frequently throughout the day. A simple plate with familiar foods can feel much more manageable.
Other gentle ways to make mealtime easier:
• Keep the table calm and free of distractions
• Offer one or two foods at a time
• Allow plenty of time—don’t rush
• Encourage fluids throughout the day
• Pay attention to changes in chewing, swallowing, or appetite
Mealtime doesn’t have to be about finishing everything on the plate. Sometimes the goal is simply creating a calm, comfortable experience while supporting good nutrition and hydration. ❤️
Small adjustments can make a BIG difference.
